Ogdensburg DPW officials say sidewalks must be clear of snow, ice within 24 hours of weather event

OGDENSBURG -- City officials say they are reminding residents of the local codes governing snow and sidewalks.

Property owners are required to clear their sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours of the end of a snow event, DPW officials said.

“Our Code Office identifies property owners in violation and they will receive a notice of remedy to correct the issue. If a property owner fails to take action the property owner is billed equipment time and labor to correct the issue. This pertains to both commercial and private properties,” DPW Director Scott Thornhill said in an email.

It is unlawful to place snow in the roadway, Thornhill said, and city police will respond to complaints and handle the issues accordingly.
