OGDENBSURG -- Ogdensburg Department of Public Works employees have been busy with paving, water main breaks and other issues recently.

Last week the DPW fixed a water main break at the corner of Morris and Ford streets after a 25-inch section blew out from the bottom of a pipe Aug. 15. DPW employees from Ogdensburg also assisted the Village of Waddington after two mains broke there at around the same time.

Waddington Mayor Janet Otto-Cassada offered appreciation for the response, which helped minimize the pain for village residents who were forced to boil water following the breaks. The boil water advisory has since been lifted.

In a report city council, DPW director Scott Thornhill said the crew also had an emergency water dig Aug. 16 near State Highway 37 and Accoway. According to the report the fix went smoothly. The issue reportedly stemmed from work performed by a contractor when the Maxim water line was installed.

Meanwhile crews have been performing work on sidewalks as well as milling streets.

In an attempt to save the city money, the DPW is doing a trial process of micro surfacing about a dozen blocks of streets. According to the report about three blocks remain to be completed.

The micro surfaced streets should last about eight years and is about half the cost of regular paving.
