OGDENSBURG – The Roman Catholic Diocese’s 2012 Bishop’s Fund begins this weekend with a goal of raising $1.25 million for a variety of programs ranging from tuition assistance to family planning.

This year's theme is “Faces of Faith” and the focus is on helping people overcome hardship through faith.

Funding raised from the appeal will be used to finance spiritual, educational, and social projects designed to support and improve the quality of life for those in need.

According to information provided by the Ogdensburg Diocese, the Bishop's Fund Appeal was founded by James Navagh in 1959 and was originally used to form Wadhams Hall Seminary College.

In 1969, the focus shifted from building projects to social and spiritual education programs.

Donations may be mailed to the Bishop’s Fund Office at PO Box 150, Ogdensburg, NY, 13669 or submitted through the website, www.dioogdensburg.org/development.
