OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg will meet Monday at 7 p.m. to establish a public hearing to discuss a $600,000 grant to assess potentially contaminated properties.
The hearing will allow the public to offer input regarding the city’s ongoing brownfield activities. The hearing will likely be held Dec. 5.
The application will be filed in a coalition effort involving St. Lawrence County and the Industrial Development Agency.
City Planner Andrea Smith said the grant would be used to complete 30 phase I reviews, 13 phase 2 reviews and 3 to 10 cleanup plans and cost estimates.
This would include assessments for hazardous and petroleum related contamination.
Smith said St. Lawrence County has identified 60 sites that could benefit from such funding. She said the grants could be used on any property, including privately owned land. She also noted that no match is required for the grants, though added that leveraging funding or services would aid in scoring.
Smith said the Ogdensburg Growth Fund is a likely supporter of the effort.
