OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg City Council has approved the sale of three properties for a total of $11,350 Monday.
Among the properties sold were a vacant lot on Monroe Avenue for $5,150, a parcel at 815 Jefferson Ave. for $4,250 and a parcel at 1420 Ford St. for $1,950.
The properties were all sold at an auction in June. Approval to market the properties was given at a previous meeting.
Ogdensburg City Councilors have been working to get increase the tax base by putting properties back on the tax rolls through sales. Although the properties did not bring in a large amount of cash for the financially struggling city, Deputy Mayor Michael Morley said the properties are better off in the hands of private citizens then in the city’s possession.
The city has been successful this year in selling vacant parcels, largely to adjacent landowners. One property put up for a sale at the most recent auction went unsold. The city council agreed to lower the starting bid from approximately $5,000 to around $3,000.
