Ogdensburg city council sells Oak Street property; seeks more buyers

OGDENSBURG -- City councilors approved the sale of a vacant land-locked parcel on Oak Street for $1,300.

City manager John Pinkerton said all adjacent landowners were sent letters informing them of the potential sale, but only Ruth Bushey responded.

City councilor William Hosmer said an adjacent landowner had recently came to the city and with an interest in the same parcel. He asked if the letters were certified to ensure he had been notified.

Pinkerton said the letters were not.

Hosmer said would like to see future sales advertised in the paper in order to ensure potential buyers are informed of sales.

City councilors unanimously approved selling the property to Bushey after a brief presentation from Ogdensburg Assessor Bruce Green, which showed where the parcel was located.

Hosmer questioned when the city planned to hold a property auction.

Pinkerton said he would like to attempt to sell the properties individually by reaching out to potential buyers as auctions can be costly.

Anyone interested in any of the surplus properties, should send a letter of interest to the City Manager, 330 Ford Street, Room 1, Ogdensburg, NY 13669 indicating the tax map number of the parcel of interest.
