OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg City Council will host a special meeting Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall to discuss possible candidates for city manager in an executive session.
City Manager John Pinkerton was hired in October of 2012 on a three-year contract and had planned to retire when that term expired, but agreed to stay on longer at request of the council.
At a June meeting Pinkerton said he would retire Dec. 31, roughly six-months early than he had agreed to previously.
In July the city has hired Bonadio Group, Pittsford, for a fee not to exceed $17,125.
Councilor William Hosmer opposed that decision, because he believed city staff could handle the task at a much lower cost.
Mayor William Nelson said he contacted five firms regarding the recruitment of a new city manager and received three quotes, which he forwarded to council.
Mayor Nelson said Bonadio Group served the city well in the past and has been the low bidder on two occasions.
No other items are included on the special agenda to be discussed at the meeting. Notably missing from the agenda is an agreement that would allow the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority to hook the airport into the city’s sewer and water systems.
At the most recent city council meeting, lawmakers said they would call for a special meeting to address the issue.
