OGDENSBURG -- City Council and some St. Lawrence County legislators will meet Thursday to discuss options regarding the county's sales tax and home rule legislation.
The county has taken the position that they will seek state approval to increase the county’s sales tax level by one percent, to four percent from three percent. Nearly every other county in the state taxes general sales at four percent or more.
Failing that, the county would consider keeping all of the sales tax revenue it collects for itself, rather than distributing half of it to local governments, including to the City of Ogdensburg, as it does now.
The discussion will take place Thursday, Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. in the Dobisky Center.
The meeting will be open to the public.
