OGDENSBURG -- The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce will host Ogtoberfest again this year, with food and drinks, music, and kids’ activities.

The festivities will be Oct. 5 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Dobisky Visitor’s Center.

Highlights will include German food, a beer garden, music, and vendors this year, with bounce houses, face painting and fireworks for kids.

This is Ogtoberfest’s “second year, last year was the first one,” said Sandra Porter, executive director at the chamber. “It was just so well received, people just kept stopping and thanking us.” The event is pretty low key, she said, “not frantic like the Seaway Festival.” It’s “genuinely a wonderful day.”

“We were asked, you know, by some of the people in the community to host something like this,” she said.

“We have the 10th mountain division band and two local bands,” said Porter.

Food will include cider and donuts from the Fort La Présentation Association and pizza from the Rotary club, along with “big German pretzels,” Porter said.

Bill Hosmer, of Hosmer’s Marina, will provide the beer garden. “I think he’ll have one German beer and some sort of regular beer that everybody likes,” Porter said. “I think that is what he did last year.”

This year’s offerings will also include wine “slushies” from River Myst Winery, she said.

A cider making demonstration will be offered, and Bratwurst and sauerkraut will be available, she said.

Child attendees can enjoy bounce houses and face painting, Porter said.

Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center’s auxiliary will host a bake sale, and the farmer’s market will be open, along with “several other vendors,” according to Porter.

The exact number and type of vendors may vary, Porter said. “It depends upon the weather,” she said. “Whether stuff is going to get ruined by rain or whatever.”

The evening will wrap up with fireworks at 7 p.m.

The event is “growing every year,” Porter said. The chamber is “trying to make this a community involvement, trying to get all the service clubs we can,” she said.

Porter hopes the event will include festive cornhusk decorations this year.

The event is designed as a “family event, just something for everyone,” she said.

The chamber plans to charge $2 admission this year, but kids under 10 will still attend free.
