OGDENSBURG -- The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce seeks volunteers for a committee to help residents and businesses install solar energy.

The solar power would come through the Solarize campaign, which the state funds.

Chamber Executive Director Laura Pearson says the group will be tasked with reviewing “the RFP’s from the potential contractors, set up events to promote the project, set up informational sessions to give the residents and businesses a chance to ask questions and get more info on converting to solarize power.”

The Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) is spearheading two Solarize campaigns targeting several North Country communities. Ogdensburg and communities along the “Adirondack Coast” are joining the Village of Canton and the Tri-Lakes in taking advantage of what a chamber news release calls “simplified purchasing and price discounts available through the program.”

In 2015, 26 communities used the technical and marketing support made available through the initiative to undertake 900 solar projects across New York, the chamber said.

"ANCA was so impressed with the turnout from businesses and residents in the Tri Lakes, Canton and Akwesasne for the first round of Solarize, said ANCA Executive Director Kate Fish. “North Country communities participating in the first round completed 78 installations and added 550KW of clean electricity to the grid. We look forward to building on this momentum through our partnership with the Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce in 2016 to bring even more solar to the St Lawrence Valley."
