The Mooneys’ new porch.
OGDENSBURG -- Amvets Post 19 Auxiliary has chosen the recipient of help from the post after their recent USO variety show raised funds to help a veteran.
Several letters with ideas were forwarded to the committee of Susan House, Judy Brabaw, Robin Reynolds and Charlene Romano to choose the winner.
“The committee drove around to verify the request and to see if it was something we could afford to do with the money we had,” said Romano in announcing the winner.
The family of Jeffery Mooney, 331 Park St., Ogdensburg, a disabled veteran with a disabled wife and four children, were chosen to get the help.
The committee saw that the Mooney’s front porch was in disrepair and had become dangerous.
Clint McMartin of McMartin Construction and Landscaping volunteered to do the work for the veteran at no charge. That allowed the Auxiliary to do the project for the Mooneys. McMartin did the whole project himself.
Auxiliary President Mary Franz and Charlene Romano are now working on a project called “A Pet For A Vet.”
“People can write in if they know a vet that would like a pet or one that needs help paying for vet bills, etc.,” Romano said.
People can send their suggestions to the Ogdensburg Amvets Post 19 Auxiliary, 308 Isabella Rd., Ogdensburg, NY, 13669.
