OFA football team, almost state champs, praised by Ogdensburg City Council

OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg City Council praised the OFA football team for their historic playoff run Monday.

The team made history when they became the first Section X football team to play in a state championship game.

Councilor Timothy Davis said the team did the entire county proud with their accomplishment. The entire council echoed that sentiment.

Councilor David Price said he was amazed with how the community came together to support the team.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.

He was also proud of the positive reviews he heard of the team’s behavior. He said he heard many people talking about how well they acted throughout the playoff run.

Councilor Jennifer Stevenson said the team members are excellent role models for children. She said children in Ogdensburg have been requesting team jerseys for Christmas.

On Friday the team ended the season in a 34-39 loss to the Newark Valley Cardinals, but finished strong by outscoring their opponents 14-3 in the second half.

In the post-season, Ogdensburg Free Academy has beat St. Lawrence Central, Gouverneur, Saranac Lake and Greenwich.

The team includes Avery Love, Hayden Ives, Wyatt Kirby, Cordell David, Jared Barr, Donald Baker, Bruce Reynolds, Michael Reed, Nick Snyder, Joe Dalton, Jackson Jones, Jordan Fennessy, Nick Dean, Sean Montalvo, Nate Jenkins, Dallas Ashley, Kevin Joanette, Dylan Pratt, Noah Strader, Andrew Woodard, Cole Piercey, Eddie Swan, Nate McCarney, Mason Tabolt, Hunter Lira, Jacob Lavigne, Jack Jelly, Mark Barr, Erik LaMay, Mason Knauf, Bradley hillier, Chris Bromley, Matt Rector, Connor Bjork, Chris Garcia, Devin Thurman, Zach Bidwell, Anthoni Pope, Brandon Stewart, Jackson Troiano and Zack Bogardus.

Head coach is Matt Tessmer and assistant coaches are Tony Williams, Charlie McCormick and Brett Monnat.
