Ogdensburg Free Academy announces top two seniors in class of 2015

OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg School District has named Justin Ross as valedictorian and Burke Comeau as salutatorian.

Ross is the son of Kevin and Juliette Ross of Ogdensburg. With a grade point average of 97.17, he is ranked first in his senior class of 104 students; a position he has maintained throughout his high school career.

Comeau is the son of Christopher and Christine Comeau, Ogdensburg. With a grade point average of 95.80, he is ranked second in his senior class of 104 students.

Ross will graduate in June, 2015 with an advanced Regents with honors and an annotation that denotes mastery in math and science. He has achieved AP scholar status by earning a score of 3 or higher on all of the AP exams. He has been an Academic All-Northern athlete since 2013. This year, he was the district’s highest-ranking nominee for the NYS Academic Excellence Scholarship.

Ross has represented Ogdensburg Free Academy on the boys’ basketball and golf teams. He was a member of the Section X basketball championship team his junior and senior year. He is a member of National Honor Society, NYSPHA Scholar Team, Key Club and Whiz Quiz. He has attended the OFA Academic Recognition Ceremony throughout his high school career and will be seated at the head table his senior year.

Ross has been an active member in the community, according to the Ogdensburg School District. He is a member of the Boys and Girls Club as well as a Biddy Basketball coach. He has held a part time job for the past two years at a local restaurant.

Ross has been awarded the Clarkson Leadership Scholarship and the NYS Regents Scholarship. He plans on majoring in mechanical engineering at Clarkson or SUNY Potsdam.

Comeau has achieved high honor roll all four years of his high school career, and will graduate with a NYS Advanced Regents diploma with honors with the annotation of mastery in math and science. He served as president of the NJHS in grades 9 and 10 and is a current active member in the National Honor Society.

Comeau is a four-year varsity athlete who has served as team captain in both hockey and lacrosse the past two seasons, where he has earned Academic All-Northern awards in each of the years. Comeau was awarded the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award for the 2013-14 lacrosse season. This past season, he was been a member of the St. Lawrence Thunder hockey team that won a state title and finished third in a national tournament. He has also held a part-time job the past three years.

Comeau will be attending Le Moyne College in the fall and was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship, the school's top merit award.He  will major in biology and pursue a career in medicine.
