St. Lawrence County residents interested in changing their party affiliation in order to vote in the primary elections must be registered with the party they wish to vote on by Oct. 9.
Unlike the actual elections, primaries are a chance for party members to select a candidate to represent the party in an election.
For example, to vote for a Republican candidate, one would must be a registered member of the Republican party.
The New York primaries will be held April 19. Those wishing to change their party affiliation must do so by Oct. 9.
For those interested in registering to vote for the first time, the deadline is March 19.
Voters can register in person at 80 State Highway 310 in Canton (DMV building, 2nd floor) or get forms online and mail them in.
