Congressman Bill Owens has been endorsed for re-election over challenger Matt Doheny by the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund with their highest rating.
The NRA has also chosen Republican challenger Wendy Long over Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
“Bill Owens has a proven record of defending the Second Amendment,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. “Because of his strong support of our rights, Owens has earned an A+ rating and endorsement from the NRA-PVF.”
According to the NRA-PVF website, an A+ is the highest possible rating for a congressperson.
Republican candidate for the 21st Congressional District Doheny earned a rating of AQ, meaning that he is viewed as a pro-gun candidate based on his statements.
"I am proud to receive this endorsement,” said Owens. “Our region is home to thousands of sportsmen and I consider it my responsibility to defend their Second Amendment rights."
Senate candidate Long earned an AQ rating. Gillbrand rated an F from the gun lobbying group.
