Norwood Village Green performers receive Grammy nominations for 2017

NORWOOD – Three of the five Grammy nominees in the bluegrass category announced by the Recording Academy Dec. 6 have performed at the Norwood Village Green Concert Series and one will perform this summer.

Laurie Lewis performed for the series three times and previously was awarded a Grammy, while Blue Highway and Claire Lynch performed once. Both have been previously nominated. The O’Connor Band featuring Mark O’Connor will be performing on July 16, 2017. Mark O’Connor has previously received two Grammy awards as well as being part of many other Grammy winning records with other artists.

Over a period of 44 years Norwood Village Green Concert Series performers have received numerous and varied awards. Those awards can be perused by visiting the series website: www.nvgcs.org. Here is a list of the series Grammy recipients and nominees:

Grammy Recipients: Mamadou Diabate, Renée Fleming (multiple), Laurel Masse’, James Cotton, Tim O’Brien, Joanne Shenandoah, Robert Ickes, Mike Auldridge, Casey Driessen, Laurie Lewis (multiple), Tom Rozan (multiple), Bill Harley (multiple), Suzie Bogguss, Steve Riley. Terrance Simien (multiple), Tom Chapin (Multiple) and Mark O’Connor (multiple)

Grammy Award Nominees – Rare Silk, Mark Murphy (multiple), Claire Lynch (multiple), Karrin Allyson (multiple), Andy Bey (multiple), Blue Highway (Multiple), Peter Phippen, Grace Potter (with Kenny Chesney), Bill Morrissey, CJ Chenier, Della Mae, John Fedcock (multiple).

In addition to the nominees, other past performers for the series contributed to two other 2017 Grammy nominees: Liz Queler and Seth Farber performed for the Norwood Village Green Concert Series in 2013 and make up 40% percent of Brady Rymer & The Little Band That Could’s “Press Play” nominated in the Children’s Category. Edward Perez, Jeremy Kittle and Nathaniel Smith have been collaborators with Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble which was nominated for “Sing Me Home” in the World Music Category. Edward Perez performed for the series in 2015, while Jememy Kittel and Nathaniel Smith performed in 2016.
