The Norwood Village Green Concert Series has received a grant of $1,000 in support of its three educational programs for the series 43rd annual season.

Other support for this project includes a gift from the Potsdam Teachers Association “In Memory of Music Educator Cathy M. Frick, a donation from the St. Lawrence County Music Educators Association, the partnership with Crane Youth Music, and general donations from across a wide spectrum of individuals, businesses, and organizations.

The total cost of this project is $11,050.

The primary mission of the series is to provide a free outdoor concert series for the region. Its secondary mission is to sponsor concerts for the students of Norwood-Norfolk Central School via out-of-school settings, and other student-related activities beyond NNCS.

Formally titled “Music Education projects in partnership with the St. Lawrence County Music Educators Association, Norwood-Norfolk Central School, Crane Youth Music and the Norwood Village Green Concert Series”, this project expands the secondary mission by including students from six St. Lawrence County school districts in performance, and student audiences from Norwood-Norfolk, Madrid-Waddington, and Potsdam school districts. It also provides workshops for CYM campers.

There are three components for this project;

• The SLCMEA Pop/Choral/Stage Band Festival with 12 performing groups representing six school districts – Thursday, June 2, 3-9 p.m.

• A 1 p.m. performance for NNCS, Madrid-Waddington and Potsdam Central elementary students given by three time Grammy award winner Tom Chapin on June 9. Additionally Chapin will perform for the general audience at 7 p.m. that evening.

• Workshops given by Drummer Sherrie Maricle for the students at CYM on Wednesday, July 6. Sherrie Maricle will perform as guest artist with the All Star Big Band at 7 p.m. that evening in Hosmer Hall for the entire body of CYM campers. She will also perform on the band shell in Norwood for the series with the All Star Big Band on Tuesday, July 5 at 7 p.m. The All Star Big Band is directed by Wally Siebel.

The project will engage more than 1,000 students and an adult audience estimated to be in excess of 2000.
