NORWOOD -- The Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents the folk duo Magpie Thursday, June 4 for two distinct and separate concerts in downtown.

The first will be held at 1 p.m. for the students of Norwood-Norfolk Central School and its theme is “The Battle Cry of Freedom: Songs and Stories About Civil War Times and People.”

The second concert for the general public at 7 p.m. will celebrate Magpie’s fortieth anniversary as a duo and will feature music from their CD recording “Of Changes and Dreams”.

With their 40th Anniversary concert at The Barns of Wolf Trap in October of 2014, and with their 40th anniversary recording “Of Changes and Dreams” with guest artist Pete Seeger (his last recorded project), Ralph Gordon, Tom Paxton, Kim & Reggie Harris, Sally Rogers, Claudia Schmidt, Sonny Ochs and a host of other luminaries, Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner have captured the essence of the great body of work that is Magpie.

Founded at Kent State University during the momentous year of 1973, Terry and Greg have been at the heart of music that changes lives for the good. From environment, to history, to civil rights, Magpie epitomizes what Changes and Dreams are all about.

“How lucky I am to have lived to see and hear more links in the chain,” Pete Seeger, Sing Out!

“Magpie performs songs of, and for the Earth. The absolute perfection and clarity of their arrangements and harmonies is masterful and stunningly emotional. They are among the finest songwriters and performers of our era,” Baltimore Folk Music Society

Admission is free but there is a pass the bucket.

The Series is supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. It is also supported by public moneys from the Town of Potsdam and the Village of Norwood. Its primary support is from many organizations, foundations, businesses and individuals. This concert is further supported by the Sweetgrass Foundation.
