NORWOOD -- The Norwood Village Green Concert Series has announced the entertainers for its 2018 season, its the 45th Anniversary Season.

The series has presented 746 diverse and eclectic concerts to an audience in excess of 630,334.

Performers from every continent, including 17 Grammy award winners, 14 Juno award recipients, two National Arts recipients, two National Heritage Award winners, two MacArthur Genius Award recipients, two Guggenheim Fellows, and other award winners in varied genres have been featured.

The current season will present a 2018 Grammy Award nominee, Joey DeFrancesco, and another Grammy nominee, Renée Marie, a recipient of the prestigious Coronet rating of the Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings for her Vertigo album.

The 2018 series will present a program of world dance and music when Vanaver Caravan performs “EarthBeat.”

Also performing will be The Battle of Santiago, a Canadian/Cuban ensemble of three Canadian rock musicians and four Cuban percussionists in a fiery and emotive explosion of juxtaposed cultures.

Audience favorites The Gibson Brothers of Ellenburg Depot will return again this year and Darmon Meader will join the All Star Big Band under the direction of Wally Siebel.

Regional acts include The Grieco Sisters who originally were students of Gail Vroman Gage at South Jefferson Central School. Three of the sisters are Crane graduates.

Former area residents Danny Gotham and Phil Hurley, and The Doty’s with Joe K. Walsh will perform in the 2018 line-up.

The Potsdam Brass Quintet returns to the series for the 4th time.

Other local groups scheduled for performance are Northern Symphonic Winds, Norwood’s own Brass Firemen, Northbound, The Atkinson Family Bluegrass Band, and Mary Ann Casale with Tas Cru.

Programming especially designed for students include the traditional opening with the St. Lawrence County Music Educators Pop Choral/Stage Band Festival with 10 participating groups, the Vanaver Caravan program, and the series partnership with Crane Youth Music via The All Star Big Band with Darmon Meader.

2018 will showcase more than 125 local musicians, either performing their own material or accompanying some of the touring artists, in addition to the 30 touring world-class performers.

The series is supported in part by the Northern New York Community Foundation.

Acoustic concerts are supported by The Sweetgrass Foundation, which is also serving as an underwriter for the performance of the Gibson Brothers.

Chevrolet/Buick dealer Mort Backus and Sons is providing underwriting support for the appearance of The Grieco Sisters.

It is expected that National Grid will once again support the programs designed for youth. Public money from the Town of Potsdam and the Village of Norwood also support the series.

The series’ primary support is from local organizations, businesses, and individuals and the venue continues to solicit donations by check.

Checks can be mailed to: Norwood Village Green Concert Series, 3 Bicknell St., Norwood 13668.

All contributions are tax deductible.

Norwood Village Green Concert Series concerts are free but there is a “pass the bucket” collection.
