NORWOOD – A Norwood resident is one of eight semi-finalists from around the world vying to win the “International 2012 The Ugly Necklace Contest.”
Joan Veres, whose ugly necklace features a sandal, seashells and more, is competing with seven others from the United Arab Emerates, United Kingdom and the United States.
The winner will receive a $992.93 shopping spree at Land Of Odds, the Nashville, Tenn. gallery that is sponsoring the contest.

A panel of four judges from The Center for Beadwork & Jewelry Arts and Land of Odds in Tennessee selected the eight finalists from among all those who entered the contest.
Other competitors include Nivya Raju, Dubai, United Arab Emerates; Juli Brown, Wells, Minnesota; Corrine Zephier, Kyle, South Dakota; Lynn Margaret Davy, Dorset, United Kingdom; Pamela Orians, Zanesville, Ohio; Quisha Saunders, Atlanta, Georgia; and Brenda Donaldson, Mesa, Arizona.
