NORWOOD – Norwood-Norfolk Central School’s Zach Gibson has beaten a world record he previously held for bench-pressing in his age group by 45 pounds.

The Revolution Power Syndicate record of 405 pounds was set by Gibson in Aug. of 2013, but was shattered recently during the RPS Winter Classic at Fair Haven, Vt., where he benched 450 pounds.

Gisbon is a senior at N-NCS and competed in the 16-17 year-old class.

The competition involves three disciplines of weight lifting, the competitors complete squats, bench press, and dead lift.

Gibson was able to squat 530 pounds, bench 450 pounds and dead lift 485 pounds.

His squat and dead lift set new state records for Vermont and his bench press is a new world record.

Between playing for the Potsdam Sandstoners Varsity football team and the Norwood-Norfolk Icemen varsity hockey team, Zach has dedicated himself to his weightlifting.

He is determined and dedicated to becoming an elite powerlifter and trains regularly with his father Bill who is also a powerlifter and record holder.
