NORWOOD – Norwood-Norfolk fifth grade teacher Stephanie Bisceglia was presented with an Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award Tuesday at the school, one of only 50 teachers in the state to be so honored.

Commissioner of the Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance Sam Roberts, representing Gov. Andrew Cuomo, made the surprise presentation surrounded by students.

“His remarks were appreciative of the efforts that teachers make to reach every child,” said Superintendent Jamie Cruickshank.

Bisceglia is one of only 50 teachers in the state and one of only five in St. Lawrence County to be recognized this year with this award.

The plaque presented to her said, “Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award presented to Stephanie Bisceglia, for exemplifying the highest ideas of teaching in your classroom, fostering creativity, a love of learning, and independent thinking from all of your students, and pursuing professional learning and advancement that will benefit you and your colleagues.”

“Congratulations, Mrs. Bisceglia. Well-deserved and well done,” Cruickshank said.
