Norwood-Norfolk High School class raises money to help local boy who is legally blind

NORWOOD — The life of a legally blind Norwood boy was enriched, thanks to a Norwood-Norfolk High School class project.

The Sports, Entertainment, and Marketing class, taught by Jeffrey Reyome, selected nine-year old Caeden Stewart for their community service project this year. Stewart was diagnosed one year ago with cone rod dystrophy, resulting in low vision in both eyes.

Class members Isaac Barkley, Jeremy Raymonda, Cory Rowsam, Maycee Ward, Brandi Salz, and Bryce Dillon organized a volleyball tournament as a fundraising event. They used the money raised to fund a trip for Stewart, a family member, and two friends to the Great Escape Amusement Park.

The class members decided they wanted to do even more for Caeden. They presented him with an iPad at his birthday party at Norwood Beach in June. Donations were also received from the Norfolk Lions Club and Walmart.

"This experience has taught me and other members of the class to not take every life function, such as sight, for granted,” Isaac Barkley said. “It taught us the rewards of being kind and giving back to people in need,"

"The tablet will allow Caeden to enlarge print when reading, and it will be very useful to him for many years to come", said his mother, Amanda Selleck. "The Sports, Entertainment, and Marketing Class is an amazing group of young adults. I am very thankful for all they have done for Caeden."
