NORWOOD -- Norwood-Norfolk Class of 1963 Scholarship Fund committee will once again award its annual $1,000 scholarship to a senior graduating from their alma mater.
It is the 13th year that funds will be given to a student with an average GPA of 80 or higher who is involved in a variety of activities. Preference is given to one showing financial need.
The student, chosen by the school’s guidance office, must attend a two- or four-year college or university, a trade school or a technical training program.
Former recipients have established careers in nursing, dental hygiene, radiology, computer science, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, and environmental studies. More recent winners are studying web design, nursing, and environmental engineering.
The fund was established in 2003 with donations from classmates, friends and families following the untimely death of classmate Colleen Bowhall Clary, who succumbed to ALS.
Directors volunteering to administer the fund are Bob Akland, Suzanne Langelier-Lebeda, Jerry DeShane, Jane Perry Peacock, Gary Regan, Gerry Grady, Diane Warner O’Connor, Doug Clary, Ellen Royce Farrington, Carolyn Jenner Swafford, Joel Bixby, Paul Frederick, and Phil Mackey. The group meets annually to manage the fund.
Classmates, friends, family members and businesses wishing to help continue the scholarship for years to come may send their tax deductible contributions to NNCS Class of ’63 Scholarship Fund, c/o of the group’s treasurer, Carolyn Swafford, PO Box 495, South Colton, NY 13687.
For more information, call Carolyn at 262-2807.
