Norwood-Norfolk Central valedictorian, salutatorian selected

NORWOOD -- Leah Livernois of Norwood has been named valedictorian and Kylee Lashomb of Norfolk is salutatorian for the Class of 2016 at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.

Both girls will be graduating with advanced Regents diplomas with honors.

Leah Livernois, daughter of Glenn and Carrie Livernois of Norwood, has average of 98.8. The school says she has excelled in academics, athletics and music.

She has taken Honors classes throughout high school including A.P. American history, A.P. Calculus AB, College Composition 101, College Psychology as well as upper level sciences including chemistry and physics.

Livernois is involved in many sports. She ran cross-country for four years and has qualified for state level competitions. She also ran indoor track and spring track for four years. She was the captain of the cross-country team and the spring track team for three years. Outside of school she has participated in Tae-Kwon-Do and has earned her brown belt.

Livernois is also involved in many clubs including Key Club, Science Club, Spanish Club, Varsity Club and Senior National Honor Society. Additionally, she was the class secretary all four years.

She has been recognized with many awards and scholarships including a $5,000 scholarship for winning first place at Myth Olympics at Clarkson University, Student of the Month, nominee for the Augsbury/North Country Scholarship for St. Lawrence University, RPI Medalist for outstanding academic achievement in the study of math and science, Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award for University of Rochester, Academic All-Northern, Academic Distinction Program and High Honor Roll.

Livernois plans to attend college and pursue a degree in environmental studies or engineering. She intends to run cross-country and track at a Division 3 school. After college, she hopes to get a job in the field of environmental engineering or a similar field.

Kylee Lashomb, daughter of Trina Reome of Norfolk and Mark Lashomb of Massena, has an average of 96.24.

Lashomb excelled in academics and athletics, the schools said. She has taken Honors courses throughout high school including A.P. American History, college credit Public Speaking, college credit English Composition and Chemistry.

Lashomb is involved in many sports. She played soccer and served as her team captain during her senior year. She also played basketball in the winter and softball in the spring.

She is also involved in many clubs including Spanish Club, Varsity Club and National Honor Society. She has also served her class treasurer.

Lashomb has been recognized with many awards including High Honor Roll at NNCS as well as at BOCES for Allied Health, Academic All-Northern and Student of the Month.

Lashomb plans to attend SUNY Plattsburgh to study psychology or Pre-Med.

The following students are being recognized for graduating with an average of 90 or above: Kylee Deon, Breanna DeShane, Gretchen Dunkelberg, Jenna Fiacco, Rebecca Hasenauer, Peter Jarvis, and Abigail Tessier.
