NORWOOD -- Norwood-Norfolk Central School has 16 candidates to choose from to fill their middle school principal position, according to NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank.
“We are pleased with the number of applicants,” Cruikshank said. “It shows there is a good, healthy interest in the position.”
Applicants from inside and outside the district applied for the job, he said.
Jonathan Sovay, current middle school principal, plans to retire Sept. 27. He spent 20 years in the district, 19 as a principal with the last 8 years at the middle school, Cruikshank said.
Cruikshank said an advisory committee made up of community members will be formed to narrow the search down.
Candidates will interview for the position in March.
The Board of Education hopes to hire someone for the position at the April meeting, Cruikshank said.
Solvay will stay on in a support role early in the school year before retiring in late September.
“I appreciate everyone serving on the advisory committee for their time,” he said.
