NORWOOD — The Norwood-Norfolk Central Board of Education approved several positions at the school and accepted donations for the district robotics team at a Feb. 20 meeting.
The Norfolk American Legion donated $500, 1000 Islands River Rat Cheese Inc. donated $250, Northern Machining Inc. donated $250, Barrett Paving Materials Inc., donated $100, and J.C. Merriman Inc. donated $100 to the NNCS Robotics program.
“These donations are to support our robotics program,” said NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank. “They have a number of competitions which they must travel to and these donations help mitigate the costs.”
The BoE appointed Jon Burnett as music director; Jade Varney as its assistant musical director; musical volunteers Dorie Reiter, Gina Fisher, Tina Salacka and Alicia Ashley.
Spring coaches include Dave Rishe, golf; Kent Fetter, girl’s head track coach; Bill Dyke, boy’s head track coach; Jess Purvis, track coach assistant; Becky Burns, varsity softball coach; John Hammill, varsity baseball; Greg Butler, modified softball; modified baseball, open; volunteer coaches include Jess Harvey, Rachel Cook, Mike LaShomb, Colleen Boak and Rick Short
Retirements approved included bus driver Kathy French, effective Jan. 25; instructional aides Lori Snyder (June 25); Charmaine Zook (July 13) and elementary teacher Kent Fetter (July 1, 2019).
Probationary appointments included food service worker Shirley Gollinger and bus driver Craig Gonyea.
The board did not discuss anything new on the budget, but rather updated information for members unable to attend the most recent finance committee meeting on Feb. 6.
In other board news, a bid for diesel gas was awarded to MX Petroleum, at $2.145 per gallon (fixed), except in colder months when they need to add kerosene to the blend, then it's $2.185 per gallon, Cruikshank said. A bid for gasoline was awarded to Adirondack Energy — with a flexible cost, he said.
