NORWOOD – The Norwood-Norfolk Central School District Board of Education approved a $23,595,133 budget that will raise $145,622 in taxes, while adding a half-time social studies teacher.
The increase will be at their 2.28 percent tax cap limit, according to Jamie Cruikshank, NNCS superintendent.
NNCS will receive a 4.02 percent increase or $608,483, Cruikshank said.
“However, this includes all aid. Foundation Aid is increasing $389,893 over last year,” he said. “The rest of the aid is associated with expenses.”
The social studies teacher will be hired for the high school
“The full (high school) position was eliminated after the recession,” Cruikshank said. “We're still adding our positions back that have been lost, little by little.”
Cruikshank said class sizes have been gradually increasing in recent years.
“We've had teachers working with larger numbers of students for the past few years,” the superintendent said.
There are no planned changes to programs.
Voters will also decide on Board of Education members during the May 15 budget vote.
George Fulk is not seeking re-election this yea. Other incumbents, James Dillon and Stephen Markum, have submitted petitions. Also, Malcolm (Mickey) Fiacco and Matthew Fiacco have submitted petitions seeking BoE seats.
