NORWOOD – Norwood-Norfolk Central School Superintendent Jamie Cruickshank gave a presentation about the next projected school budget at the Board of Education meeting Jan. 17. The BOE also approved the retirements of two teachers and a principal

Cruickshank said it was too early to get into financial details, as they are waiting to see what the governor’s state budget says about school funding.

“We’ve always complied with the tax cap,” he said.

He said school officials will be analyzing the state budget in the coming days and a budget workshop session is planned on Feb. 7.

“We look historically at the tax rate and foundation aide and see where we’ve been,” he said.

Also at the meeting, the Board of Education accepted several resignations for retirements and approved appointments of faculty and staff.

Middle school principal John Sovay notified the school that he plans to retire Sept. 27, 2018. Sovay, who has been principal at the high school and elementary school during his tenure, will have worked at the school for over 20 years upon his retirement.

Two teachers also let the board know their intentions to retire. The board approved the retirement of math teacher Glenn Clemens. He will retire effective July 1, 2018. Physical education teacher Bill Dyke is was approved for his retirement which will take place June 30, 2018.

Cruickshank said that in order to receive any incentives the school offers, an employee is contractually obligated to notify the school at least a year ahead of time of their intentions.

The next Board of Education meeting will take place Feb. 21.
