NORWOOD -- Norwood-Norfolk Central School will hold a budget work session tonight to discuss the tax levy, possible additions to the school faculty. and to crunch budget numbers.
The 6:30 p.m. meeting is open to the public and held in the district conference room.
No decisions are expected to be made tonight, as most of the focus will be spent on reviewing known expenditures such as BOCES expenses and utility bills, NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank said. “We will keep working the numbers,” he said.
NNCS is dealing with a difference in class sizes as they look to plan for the future.
Cruikshank says the next few years NNCS will graduate smaller class sizes than normal, with some larger elementary classes coming up.
“We will see where the needs are and try to make it work,” he said.
School officials have looked at over 20 different areas as they will try to prioritize them.
There is a list of requests from administrators so that if funding allows additions then officials will be able to add it to the budget without much further discussion.
As of now, no additional teavhers are included in the budget.
A wish list includes adding teaching positions and increasing pay rates for substitute teachers, Cruikshank said.
’This way the board has an idea of what were are looking at,” he said.
The tax cap for the district is 2.28 percent. Cruikshank told NCTW he does not expect to go over the cap, but was not sure how close they would come to the cap.
