NORWOOD – The mother of a Norwood-Norfolk Central School student says bus drivers have forgotten to pick up or drop off her four-year-old daughter 12 times since school stated in September.

Megan Gagner said her daughter Sofie has repeatedly forgotten by her bus driver, leaving her mother concerned about her late arrivals home.

"The first week it happened was because it was a new routine. It happened three times and that was perfectly understandable, but we are months into the school year now. It shouldn't be happening."

Norwood-Norfolk Central School Superintendent Jamie Cruickshank agrees.

“It’s a reoccurring problem and it shouldn’t be. It’s something we are addressing,” he said.

Gagner said she met with school officials and is hopeful the problem will end, but her confidence has been shaken, by past promises that weren’t kept.

She said a letter sent to school board president John Hazen described the issue.

“He said it was unacceptable and wouldn't happen again,” she said. “Then it happened again.”

Cruickshank said he understands and agrees with Granger’s concern.

“Her daughter has been accounted for in every case, so it is not a safety issue, but we never want to cause alarm to our students or their parents,” he said.

Cruickshank said he is handling the issue, but not discussing it publicly as it is regarding personnel, an area that schools are not obligated to share publicly.

“Megan has been exceptional to work with. We fully understand her concern,” he said.

Gagner says she is hopeful the problems will end soon.

“We just wish for a different bus driver. I want people to understand and realize its not an ‘oops, lets make sure it doesn’t happen again,’ something needs to be done,” she said. “I won’t be satisfied until I am certain it won’t happen again.”
