POTSDAM – A Norwood man has been sent to county jail on cash bail after being arrested for allegedly stealing a 30-pack of beer and driving drunk on a golf cart down Sisson Street at 3:14 a.m. Wednesday.
Nicholas S. Amberman, 25, Norwood, was charged with petit larceny, felony driving while intoxicated (previous conviction within 10 years), first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, grand larceny: auto valued over $100, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle, obstructing governmental administration and operating an unregistered motor vehicle on the highway.
Police allege they first received a report early Wednesday that a man had stolen a 30-pack of beer from the Sunoco on Market Street.
They later located an abandoned golf cart on Sisson Street containing a 30-pack of beer matching what was taken from the gas station.
Officers say they found Amberman nearby in a wooded area, and he was allegedly intoxicated.
Nicholas Amberman was arraigned in village court by Judge Pignone and remanded to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond. He will reappear in court at a later date.
