POTSDAM — A Norwood man was jailed Tuesday evening after crashing a vehicle he did not have permission to drive and then fleeing the scene on foot on Elm Street, according to Potsdam police.
Justin P. Woodward, 25, was charged at 5:54 p.m. with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, unsafe turn and unnecessary noise: tires, officers said.
Police said they responded to a report of an accident in a business parking lot on Elm Street. Police discovered that a driver had struck a vehicle and then parked before fleeing on foot.
Woodward was reportedly operating the vehicle erratically and without permission from the owner of the vehicle. He was also driving on a suspended license.
With assistance from St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies, Woodward was taken into custody and transported to the Potsdam Police Department.
He was arraigned by Village Justice Pignone and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.
