NORWOOD -- Norwood Public Library’s outreach program, My Book Bag, connects young children with high-quality picture books.
“We want to get books into the hands of children,” Library Director Rebecca Donnelly said.
The library, sponsored in part by the Friends of the Norwood Public Library, purchased drawstring backpacks and picture books to give away to each child attending the Norwood Head Start center.
The backpacks went home with the children the week before the winter break with one book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault.
Each month through May, the children will receive one more book for their book bags, for a total of six books.
“And we’re so happy to be working with Head Start to do that,” Donnelly said.
Donnelly said the program would not have been possible without support of the Friends group that raises money for the library.
