NORWOOD – More than seven months have passed since a Norwood man died from injuries sustained in a dirk bike accident, but his memory will live on through a bench dedication held on May 24.
Twenty year-old Devin M. Waite was killed last October after he struck a tree in the woods behind his house in Raymondville.
"Devin’s friends wanted a memorial bench placed in the Norwood Park where he and his friends spent much of their teenage years, and thanks to the generous support of the community, the bench has become a reality," Terri Clemmo wrote in an email.
A ceremony was held in Norwood Park where a bench was dedicated in memory of Waite.
The dedication was made possible through various fundraising efforts including donation jars for the Devin Waite Memorial Fund, commemorative t-shirt sales and proceeds from a benefit organized by Sandar Bregg.
“Devin touched so many people’s lives with his kindness, generosity and wonderful personality. We are truly blessed to have known him and he will forever be in our hearts,” said Clemmo.
Clemmo said she also wanted to express a special thank you to Hannah Babcock for creating donation jars, collecting and depositing donations and organizing t-shirt orders and Lloyd Pierce, from Rez Ink, for allowing the use of his design for the t-shirts; and Megan Charleston.
To purchase t-shirts commemorating the event, which can be pre-ordered and will be available at the ceremony. Proceeds will help White's family with outstanding expenses.
