Norwood Green Concert Series on its way to reaching lighting fundraising goals

NORWOOD -- The Norwood Village Green Concert Series has reached one fundraising goal for new lighting.

The effort, conducted through Adirondack Gives, the Adirondack Foundation’s crowd-funding site, has succeeded in raising $1,475. The goal was reached on April 6th, 24 days ahead the of May 2 deadline, “thanks to the backers of the project,” said Joe Liotta, the concert series co-founder and president.

The result of this project will be the purchase of one Altman Spectra LED 100.

“It is hoped that another source will fund five more Altmans and all lights will be in place for the opening of the 42nd annual version of the series,” Liotta said.

The series has also received two grants totaling $4,500 from the New York State Presenters Organization to assist with performance fees for the Villalobos Brothers and Dorrance Dance for the 2016 season.

“The series is committed to these two performance groups and the 2016 season will be built around their exciting and much anticipated appearances,” Liotta wrote in a press release.

The series also recently received a grant from the Sweetgrass Foundation assisting with artists’ fees for the acoustic concerts. Liotta notes that the Sweetgrass Foundaton has “consistently helped the series present a wide range of acoustic musicians over the years.”

They also received a grant from National Grid to help with bringing saxophone superstar Steve Wilson to Norwood for his appearance with the All Star Big Band under the direction of Wally Siebel, and his workshops and performance for Crane Youth Music.

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series 2015 schedule may be found at the series web site, www.nvgcs.org. The web site has the most up-to-date information about the performers and there are links to all performers’ web sites.

The goal for donations for this year is $30,000. That will include $10,000 anticipated from concert “pass-the-buckets” and $20,000 in donations from individuals and foundations. It does not include public funding from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Town of Potsdam, or the Village of Norwood. It also doesn’t include the funding for the dedicated lighting projects in 2015.

Liotta said that the series is “continuing to strive to present an appealing mix of meaningful and dynamic performances for an ever expanding and appreciative audience while at the same time maintaining financial integrity.”

Tax-deductible donations may be made by the check to the Norwood Village Green Concert Series and mailed to Norwood Village Green Concert Series, 3 Bicknell Street, Norwood, NY 13668.

The series opens on Thursday, May 28 with the St. Lawrence County Music Educators Pop Choral/Stage Band Festival at 3:30 p.m., which will include 11 performing groups from seven school districts.
