NORWOOD -- The Norwood Volunteer Fire Department is holding elections for officers tonight at their firehouse, 2 Bernard Ave.
The department has also chosen firefighter Douglas Grady as their Firefighter of the Year.
Running unopposed to keep their positions are Chief Jeremy French, First Assistant Chief Harold Loomis, Jr., and Second Assistant Chief Donald Jarvis.
Third Assistant Chief William McIntyre is being challenged by a relatively new member of the department, Daniel Monica.
Firefighter of the Year Douglas Grady has been one of the Norwood volunteers for 43 years, according to his sister, Gerry Grady.
Grady has made himself indispensible to the department with his skill at maintenance work on the trucks and around the fire house, Chief French said.
“He helped fix the old fire whistle when it was wasn’t working,” French said, and his attention to general maintenance on the trucks is invaluable.
“Whatever we need, he’s always there for us,” French said.
The department was formed in 1876.
