NORWOOD – Local businessman Glenn Webster of Webster’s Retail Meat recently donated $1,000 to the Norwood Fire Department as part of their annual coin card drive.
“Webster heard we were looking to buy some new fire hose for our fire truck and made a most generous donation of $1,000” said FD treasurer Tim Donahue.
The Norwood Fire Department has been handing out coin card request each year for at least a half-century. The name has stuck from when they literally were coin cards.
Residents would place quarters in the coin slots and 10 weeks later, they were picked up and had $10 in coin in them. Money collected is to supplement equipment needed by the fire department.
This year the board of chiefs has chosen to purchase remote control units for all the truck bays and replacing aging fire hose, Donahue said.
