Northern TRIBS swimmers compete at swimming championship meet in Troy

Northern TRIBS Swimming (NTS), with competitors from St. Lawrence County, had 16 members qualify for this year’s championship March 17-19 held in Troy. The women’s team finished 9th out of 24 clubs and the men’s team finished in 8th with only four swimmers.

Northern TRIBS Swimming is a year-round USA Swimming club in Northern N.Y. for swimmers of all ages in Franklin, St. Lawrence and Jefferson counties, including Akwesasne.

Gretchen Braun, 9, of Lisbon, won 3rd place overall for the 10 & Under Girls group by earning 143 individual points out of the 237 points earned by the women’s team.

She swam 9 events placing 2nd in the 500 Free with a 6:18.87, 2nd in the 100 Back with a 1:17.93, 2nd in the 200 Free with a 2:27.59, 2nd in the 50 Back with a 35.53, 3rd in the 100 Free with a 1:06.66, 3rd the 100 IM with a 1:16.28, 4th in the 50 Free with a 30.51, 4th in the 100 Breast with a 1:28.37 and 6th in the 200 IM with a 2:49.24.

Leon Lufkin, 14, of Potsdam, earned 75 individual points out of the 166 points earned by the men’s team.

He won the only first place finish for NTS in the 100 Breast with a new club record of 1:03.91.

He also finished 2nd in the 200 Breast with a 2:21.93.

Seth Braun, 11, of Lisbon raced an amazing 20 times in prelims and finals earning the most points for the men’s team – 81. In doing so he broke six club records.

Gretchen Braun and Leon Lufkin are joining the Adirondack “All-Star Team” for the Eastern Zone Short Course Championship in Webster, March 20-April 1.

Julia Domena, 15, of Waddington is headed to Speedo Sectionals in Ithaca the same weekend. She qualified with a 24.54 in her 50 Free and a 54.07 in the 100 Free.

NTS also said goodbye to two graduating seniors, Jesse Braun of Lisbon and Mary Chisholm of Canton. Their leadership and contributions will surely be missed.

New Records: 9 Female, 16 Male, and 3 Relays

Female 9-10: Gretchen Braun - 100 Free 1:06.66, 500 Free 6:18.87, and 100 Breast 1:28.37.

Female 13-14: Isabella Jaskowski – 50 Back 29.37.

Female 15 & Over: Julia Domena – 50 Free 24.54, 100 Back 1:00.90, 100 Fly 1:01.11; and Hannah Braun – 100 Breast 1:10.75 and 200 Breast 2:32.89.

Male 11-12: Seth Braun – 50 Free 27.82, 100 Free 1:01.66, 200 Free 2:09.85, 100 Fly 1:12.27, 100 IM 1:10.54, and 200 IM 2:29.36.

Male 13-14: Leon Lufkin – 100 Breast 1:03.91, 200 Breast 2:21.93, 100 Fly 1:03.81 and 200 IM 2:12.63.

Male 15 & Over: Paul Braun – 50 Back 28.40, 100 Back 29.02 and 200 Back 2:13.89; and Jesse Braun – 50 Free 23.81, 100 Free 52.28, and he tied his previous 100 Breast record of 1:04.36.

Female 200 Medley Relay 1:56.03 team of Isabella Jaskowski, Hannah Braun, Julia Domena and Sophia Silver.

Female 400 Free Relay 3:50.87 team of Julia Domena, Isabella Jaskowski, Sophia Silver and Hannah Braun.

Male 400 Free Relay 3:41.29 team of Jesse Braun, Paul Braun, Leon Lufkin and Seth Braun.
