North County's first snow storm of winter causes minor power outages, cancellations; motorists advised to drive with extreme caution

The North Country's first storm of the year has caused minor power outages and cancelled bus routes in St. Lawrence County for Wednesday as snow continues to fall creating hazardous road conditions.

A mix of widespread precipitation is expected this morning before becoming all snow later today and tonight with about four to six inches expected before Thanksgiving morning, according to the National Weather Service.

An estimated 389 customers from across the county were reportedly without power, according to National Grid.

Customers in Potsdam, Parishville,  Hammond, Pierecefield, Rossie, Stockholm and Waddington can expect power to be restore around 9:15 a.m., National Grid said.

St. Lawrence County NYSARC and CDP CSS routes have been cancelled for Wednesday.

Temperatures will be in the mid 30s today with winds of 10 mph and gusts up to 25 mph, the service says.

Snow is expected to taper off Thanksgiving morning and temperatures will be below normal around 20 degrees with winds 13 to 17 mph and gusts reaching 30 mph, the service says.

Thanksgiving Night will see partly cloudy skies with a low around 6 and a wind chill of -1, according to the service.

The weather service forecast for the rest of the week is as follows:

Tonight Snow. Low around 14. Wind chill values as low as zero. West wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Thanksgiving Day Scattered snow showers, mainly before 10am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 20. West wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 6. Wind chill values as low as -1. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light southwest after midnight.

Friday Mostly sunny, with a high near 19. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

Friday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 2. Calm wind.

Saturday Mostly sunny, with a high near 21. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the morning.

Saturday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. Southeast wind around 8 mph.

Sunday A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 34. South wind around 8 mph.
