The Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties Central Trades & Labor Council has announced that they are officially supporting the idea that each SUNY campus should have its own president.
SUNY Central in Albany is trying to consolidate some administrative and instructional functions at SUNY campuses that are close to each other, most notably at SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton.
SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher had wanted to relive SUNY Canton President Joseph Kennedy of his duties there and bring him to Albany as a consultant, while having SUNY Potsdam President John Schwaller act as president at both schools.
Loud protests from SUNY Canton have at least put that plan aside for the time being.
