During the holiday traffic enforcement period from Dec. 12 through Jan. 1, New York State Police in Troop B, including St. Lawrence County, issued 3,097 tickets.

During this time, troopers participated in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign which incorporated fixed sobriety checkpoints. They also participated in "Operation Hang Up" which targets distracted drivers by utilizing “concealed identity traffic enforcement” (CITE) patrol vehicles to better locate drivers talking or texting on handheld devices.

Troopers also were on the lookout for those not properly buckled up, drivers violating the “move over” laws, as well as drivers violating the speed limits. Below is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued.

• distracted: 88

• DWI/DWAI-drugs: 41

• “move over” law: 24

• speed: 875

Troop B also investigated 352 car crashes during the campaign, with 47 of those crashes resulting in injury to an occupant and one crash resulting in a fatality.

During last year’s holiday enforcement initiative, from Dec. 13 2013 to Jan. 1, 2014, Troop B issued a total of 2,783 tickets.

New York State Police Troop B includes St. Lawrence, Franklin, Essex, Clinton and Hamilton counties.
