A cold front is pushing through the North Country this morning, bringing showers to an end with clearing and sunshine this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures today should be near 70.

High pressure quickly builds back in tonight, and lows tonight will drop to the mid 40s, forecasters say.

Monday skies will be clear with temperatures warming to the mid 70s.

Other than a chance of showers Tuesday and Wednesday, most of the week ahead looks dry with temperatures on the warm side of normal.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 11am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 69. North wind 8 to 11 mph.

• Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 44. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable.

• Monday: Sunny, with a high near 75. West wind 6 to 10 mph.

• Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. South wind 7 to 9 mph.

• Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 5pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. South wind 5 to 14 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Southwest wind around 6 mph.

• Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. West wind 6 to 9 mph.

• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph.

• Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 72. Light west wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.

• Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 51. Southwest wind around 9 mph.

• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. West wind around 10 mph.
