Two of the women who represent upstate New York in Congress have sent out messages after the inauguration of Donald Trump as president.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, attended the inauguration and praised the system that has given us another peaceful transition of power.

“The Presidential Inauguration is a uniquely American experience that celebrates the peaceful transition of power from one president to the next. Today I was honored to host over 150 constituents from across the North Country who made the trip to Washington, D.C., to take part in this historic occasion.

“Today’s ceremony is a reminder that, despite the challenges we face, we are blessed to live in this great and unique nation, and as elected lawmakers, we must strive to work together to tackle these problems and to preserve the American Dream for future generations.

“I will continue to work on bipartisan solutions to the problems facing our nation and facing families across our district. I wish all the best to President Trump and Vice President Pence and look forward to working with them to deliver great things for our country.”

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand talked about the “greatness of our democracy.”

“Regardless of how you felt about the election, today’s ceremony was a stark reminder of the greatness of our democracy. As a public servant, I am humbled at the opportunity to work on behalf of all New Yorkers and will do my best to work with the incoming president on issues where we can find common ground.”
