As Republicans gathered Tuesday in the Adirondacks to support Elise Stefanik, several North Country politicians have thrown their support to Democrat Aaron Woolf in the NY-21 Congressional race.
Woolf, who has been endorsed by the St. Lawrence County Democrat Committee, is also grabbing support from officials in Franklin County.
Several officials said they wanted to show their support for Woolf and affirm their opposition to a Stefanik fundraiser Tuesday in Tupper Lake.
In a news release, the group said Stefanik spent a “decade in D.C. working with political insiders like Karl Rove.”
“I support Aaron Woolf because he is there for the people,” said Jamie Durant, Bombay Superintendent of Highways. “He knows that you have to lace up your boots to ‘get the job done.’ I believe if elected, he would be the best person to be the voice of the North Country.”
Bombay is a Franklin County town located near Massena.
Woolf is a small business owner and documentary filmmaker from Brooklyn who first went to Elizabethtown with his family 45 years ago.
During the election, Woolf has picked up endorsements from officials in the Adirondack region including Tupper Lake Town Councilor John Quinn.
“I support Mr. Woolf’s candidacy for New York’s 21st Congressional race because his views are closely aligned to mine,” he said. “He is a small businessman who knows first-hand the issues facing employers and their employees. He is not a Washington insider who is beholding to party powerbrokers. Mr. Woolf is offering real solutions to real problems.”
If elected to Congress, Woolf says he “will fight to protect Social Security and Medicare so that our region’s citizens can have a safe and secure retirement.”
“Aaron Woolf is a person that knows the issues of the North Country,” said Bill Jones, chairman of the Franklin County Legislature. “I agree with many of his principles, especially his fight against privatizing social security. We don’t need Washington impressing their issues and principles upon us. We need someone to take our issues and principles of the North Country to Washington and Aaron is the person to do that.”
