CANTON -- After some delays and setbacks due to construction, North Country Pastured will celebrate the opening of its new mobile slaughterhouse.
The unit will be certified for organic and humanely treated processing of chickens, ducks, turkeys, and pheasants.
North Country Pastured was awarded grants from the St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency and the North Country Regional Economic Development Council in 2012
A ribbon cutting will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sugar Hill Farm, 116 Rice Road, DeKalb Junction.
Attending the event will be Assemblywoman Addie Russell, President of Clarkson University and Co-Chair of the NCREDC Anthony G. Collins, St. Lawrence County IDA Chief Executive Officer Patrick Kelly and Canton Town Supervisor David T. Button.
North Country Pastured is cooperatively owned by Renee Smith, Ellen Rocco, William (Liam) Hunt and Rick Welsh.
