North Country Now readers mostly against plan to take guns away from those convicted for domestic violence

North Country Now readers commenting on the NCNow Facebook page mostly say they do not support a state plan that would take guns away from anyone convicted of a domestic violence-related felony or misdemeanor.

In their explanation for pushing the law, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office cites an “inextricable link” between domestic violence and gun violence. More details about the proposal are here.

Here is what NCNow Facebook followers had to say:

“The British are coming the British are coming . Please Trump save Ny [sic],” Facebook user Kevin Aldridge said.

“Wonder how many women will start making false claims to just see an ex’s guns taken away? This new law will make it easier than ever for them to do so,” Facebook user Granger Watson said.

“I fully support this! Common sense!” Facebook user Randi Goodwin said.

“Just another excuse to ban firearms. Cuomo is as crooked as Hillary,” Facebook user Michael Pecor said.

“Ever heard of Lautenberg? This is already a Federal law. You're not changing anything,” Facebook user Jordan Sharpe said.

“Where is the due process?” Facebook user William Powell said.

“Good,” Facebook user Lynn Ch commented.

“Get to the point Andy ALCOHOL is the common denominator prohibition is the answer,” Facebook user Tim Levison said.

“He's wasting State resources as there is ALREADY a FEDERAL LAW on the books which does exactly what he's trying to accomplish. The Lautenberg Amendment has been in place for 20 years. All he'd have to do is emphasize enforcement throughout the state. 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1-9). What exactly is Andy Cuomo up to?” Facebook user Chrissy Ayers Gilson said.
