North Country Matters to discuss SUNY Canton Health and Wellness programs

POTSDAM -- The SUNY Canton Health and Wellness programs are the topic of the first new conversation of North Country Matters for the fall semester.

Guests Farren Lobdell, the Health Educator/Wellness Coordinator, and Amanda Rowley, the Title IX Coordinator, discuss how these programs are improving the campus climate for all students with NCM host Donna Seymour.

They conversation covers the Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training that SUNY Canton is implementing, designed to address sexual violence to create a safer campus.

The strategy gives students and other bystanders the means to intervene, interrupt or distract individuals before a problem erupts.

The college began a series of Green Dot trainings last semester and has already taught over 900 members of the college community about violence prevention.

This education program is just one of many the campus is doing to meet its obligations under Title IX. The show YouTube link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4LLJ8IZeNk.

The NCM civic partners working to educate North Country residents about critical public policy issues facing our region include AAUW-St. Lawrence County, the League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County and Clarkson and SUNY Potsdam Communication students, who provide the technical expertise and social media outreach for the production.

The shows are filmed at the WCKN studio on the Clarkson campus.

In addition to local broadcasts, the shows are also available on YouTube athttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXnsRt0cUL5YdjA8ScVG8cQ.
