Rumors of a new kind of Girl Scout cookies are true, but scouts in the North Country won’t have them to sell.
“I know there has been talk about a new Girl Scout cookie, the Mango Crème cookies,” said Kim Dunne, media manager for the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, Inc., which includes North Country troops.
She explains that there are two bakers of Girl Scout cookies – ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers. The Mango Crème cookies are from ABC Bakers. “The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways are supplied by Little Brownie Bakers and we have no new cookies this year,” Dunne said.
But North Country “cookie monsters” shouldn’t be discouraged. There will be plenty of the Savannah Smiles, the 100th anniversary cookie Girl Scouts rolled out last year, along with all the old favorites, Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Samoas, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Dulce de Leche, and Thank U Berry Munch.
Dunne notes that “the skills that girls are learning by participating in the cookie program -- goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics,” are a valuable part of the Girl Scout cookies program.
