The commute to work isn't getting any cheaper as gas prices throughout the North Country are now more than $4 per gallon.

The high gas prices have been attributed to low gasoline stockpiles in the wake of Hurricane Isaac, which forced many plants to shut down temporarily.

According to reports from Gasbuddy.com, a national gasoline price monitoring website, prices are expected to remain high throughout the nation before dropping back down between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Reader submissions at GasBuddy.com show Massena fuel stations' per-gallon gas prices ranging from $4.03 to $4.17. According to the Massena area submissions, the price at Mobil station on Route 37 was $4.03 cents while Stewarts and Sunoco prices were reported at $4.15 per gallon.

While the highest prices have been reported in Massena, other communities are breaking the $4 mark as well.

In Ogdensburg prices at the Canton Street Sunoco and Route 37 Valero were reported at approximately $4.03 per gallon.

Reports from the Canton area show gas prices at $3.96 at Nice N' Easy.

In Potsdam this afternoon, the price of gasoline rose to $4.07 at the Stewart’s at the corner of Market Street and Sandstone Drive.

The price climb has brought the North Country well above the national average of $3.86.

It is also above the state average of $4.01 per gallon.
